On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force. As we gear towards 2030 with these new Goals that universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
SDG meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
SDG calls for concerted efforts towards building an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future for people and planet.
To achieve SDG, it is crucial to harmonize three core elements: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection.
Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions is an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
Country-led sustainable development strategies will require resource mobilization and financing strategies.
All stakeholders: govts, civil society, the private sector, and others, are expected to contribute to the realisation of the SDG.
